Heart of gratitude (thankfulness)

3We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel 6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. (Colossians 1:3-6)

What is a heart of gratitude?

Gratitude is when those who have received grace repay the giver of grace.  A grateful heart is to feel grateful for the grace you have received, to engrave your gratitude in your heart, and to live a life expressing the gratitude you have in your heart to others, just like the person who gave you the grace.

Gratitude is a key that can open the door to blessings

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and  his courts with praise; give thanks to him And praise his name (Psalms 100:4)

Gratitude is the fruit of faith

17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17)

Gratitude is to know that you have received God’s blessing already

 Gratitude begets greater gratitude

Gratitude belongs to those that seek things to be grateful for

The way we perceive various types of gratitude (thankfulness)

First, there is the gratitude of receiving

Second, there is the gratitude through realization

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened (Romans 1:21)

Third, there is the gratitude through faith

Why must we have a heart of gratitude?

Why we should cultivate gratitude improve quality of life to live a little happier.

Because God became my father

7Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)

8Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)

21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use? 22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory— 24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

 (Romans 9:21-24)

Because God gave us the gospel

1 John 4:7,8 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

John 3:15-16 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 1:2-4  the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, 4and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:3-8  For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

Because he made us his children and gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit

(1:12) )  12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12)

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17)

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit  (Acts 2:38)

16Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Acts 1:13,14)

How can we obtain a heart of gratitude?

Become a mature human being

14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. (Ephesians 4:14)

Start a gratitude diary of things you are grateful for

Express your gratitude immediately

Find joy in the smallest things in life

Help others

Meditate

Always invite God as your first priority

20Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. 22“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” (Genesis 8:20-22)

Give thanks for all the nature around us

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows..

(Galatians 6:7)

Give thanks to God that he entrusted this day to you
