 Duty to Christians

마태복음22;15-22, 막12;13-17; 눅20:19-26

15이에 바리새인들이 가서 어떻게 하여 예수로 말의 올무에 걸리게 할까 상론하고

16자기 제자들을 헤롯 당원들과 함께 예수께 보내어 말하되 선생님이여 우리가 아노니 당신은 참되시고 참으로써 하나님의 도를 가르치시며 아무라도 꺼리는 일이 없으시니 이는 사람을 외모로 보지 아니하심이니이다 17그러면 당신의 생각에는 어떠한지 우리에게 이르소서 가이사에게 세를 바치는 것이 가하니이까 불가하니이까 한대 18예수께서 저희의 악함을 아시고 가라사대 외식하는 자들아 어찌하여 나를 시험하느냐 19셋돈을 내게 보이라 하시니 데나리온 하나를 가져왔거늘 20예수께서 말씀하시되 이 형상과 이 글이 뉘 것이냐 21가로되 가이사의 것이니이다 이에 가라사대 그런즉 가이사의 것은 가이사에게, 하나님의 것은 하나님께 바치라 하시니 22저희가 이 말씀을 듣고 기이히 여겨 예수를 떠나가니라

Paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar

15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” 18 But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, 20 and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” 21 “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “So give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” 22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away. (Matthew 22:15-22)

 

예수님의 비유들은 유대인의 불신앙을 책망하는 비유들입니다. 그들은 예수님의 책망에 회개하지 않고 예수님을 올무에 걸리게 하여 채포하려는 앙심을 품고 평소에는 원수처럼 지내던 해롯당과 작당하여 가이사에게 세를 바치는 것이 합당하냐고 질문하였습니다.  세금을 바치라고 하면 비애국자로낙인을 찍으려 함이며 바치지 말라고 하면 로마의 권세로 체포하려 하였다고 하였습니다. 실로 진퇴양난의 어려운 처지에서 예수님은 가이사의 것은 가이사에게 하나님의 것은 하나님에게 바리라 하므로 그들을 말할 수 없게 만들었습니다.

예수님의 답변속에는 크리스찬의  이중의무를 내포하는 교훈이 있음을 보여줍니다.

 

1.    이중 의무의 배경

1)     국적이 이중입니다. – 하늘나라와 세상입니다. (빌 3:20)

20오직 우리의 시민권은 하늘에 있는지라 거기로서 구원하는 자 곧 주 예수 그리스도를 기다리노니

20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, (Philippians 3:20)

2)     생활이 이중입니다.  –신앙생활과 국민생활(마6:33)

33너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33)

3)     통치자가 이중입니다. – 왕이신 예수와 세상 주권자 (단 3:17,18)

17만일 그럴 것이면 왕이여 우리가 섬기는 우리 하나님이 우리를 극렬히 타는 풀무 가운데서 능히 건져내시겠고 왕의 손에서도 건져내시리이다 18그리 아니하실찌라도 왕이여 우리가 왕의 신들을 섬기지도 아니하고 왕의 세우신 금 신상에게 절하지도 아니할 줄을 아옵소서

17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

(Daniel 3:17,18)

 

2.    국가적인 성도의 의무

1)     주권자의 명령을 주안에서 준송하며 (벧전 2:17

17뭇사람을 공경하며 형제를 사랑하며 하나님을 두려워하며 왕을 공경하라

17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

2)     국가위한 납세의무를 성실하게 이행하고(롬13:7

7모든 자에게 줄 것을 주되 공세를 받을 자에게 공세를 바치고 국세 받을 자에게 국세를 바치고 두려워할 자를 두려워하며 존경할 자를 존경하라

7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

 

3)     국가법을 준수하며 애국자가 되어야한다(롬3:1,2

1그런즉 유대인의 나음이 무엇이며 할례의 유익이 무엇이뇨 2범사에 많으니 첫째는 저희가 하나님의 말씀을 맡았음이니라 1 What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? 2 Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God. (Romans 3:1,2)

 

3.    천국을 위한 성도의 의무

1)     온몸을 다하여서 하나님을 경외하고 (단4:34,35

34그 기한이 차매 나 느부갓네살이 하늘을 우러러 보았더니 내 총명이 다시 내게로 돌아온지라 이에 내가 지극히 높으신 자에게 감사하며 영생하시는 자를 찬양하고 존경하였노니 그 권세는 영원한 권세요 그 나라는 대대에 이르리로다 35땅의 모든 거민을 없는 것 같이 여기시며 하늘의 군사에게든지 땅의 거민에게든지 그는 자기 뜻대로 행하시나니 누가 그의 손을 금하든지 혹시 이르기를 네가 무엇을 하느냐 할 자가 없도다

34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. 35 All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: “What have you done? (Daniel 4:34,35)”

2)     나의 몸을 하나님이 거뻐하시는 거룩한 예배를 드리며(롬 12:1,2

1그러므로 형제들아 내가 하나님의 모든 자비하심으로 너희를 권하노니 너희 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제사로 드리라 이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라 2너희는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(Romans 12:1,2)

3)     교회와 우리에게 주신 사명을 위해 헌신하고 충성해야 한다(빌1:20

20나의 간절한 기대와 소망을 따라 아무 일에든지 부끄럽지 아니하고 오직 전과 같이 이제도 온전히 담대하여 살든지 죽든지 내 몸에서 그리스도가 존귀히 되게 하려 하나니  

20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. (Philippians 1:20)

성도들은 세상 사람에게 비애국자라는 말을 많이 듣습니다. 우리는 성경을 깊이 연구하면 구약시대 많은 선진들은 신앙심과 애국심이 항상 병행하였습니다. 보이는 형제를 사랑하지 않는 자가 어찌 보이지 않는 하나님을 사랑 할 것인가?

우리는 진정한 마음과 애국적인 충성을 다하여 이땅에 주의 뜻이 이루어 지기를 기도해야 합니다.
