The process of watching seeds grow is a great activity for kids particularly when the seeds develop quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is a very easy to cultivate seed that will develop in the next week. For a chance to observe the seeds grow, sprinkle a few alfalfa seeds onto a piece of damp paper towel.
You'll Need:
A small packet of Alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g).
A small saucer or plate
Three pieces of paper towel
A small spray mister or water jug
How to Develop
Place 3 sheets of paper towel on a dish.
Take the water off the plate. The paper towel must be damp but the seeds should not be floating in water.
Distribute the seeds evenly over the towel.
To stop the paper towel from drying out, place it on a window covered with water. It is possible to use a mister or spray bottle to dampen the seeds or بذور جرجير gently add a small quantity of water into the saucer using an ice cube or a small cup.
Everyday, you should check your seeds to see how they are developing.
Troubleshooting
Alfalfa can be a very easy to grow seed that should germinate in 2 to 6 days. Here are some signs to keep an eye on when your seeds fail to germinate within this period.
Too dry. Seeds require water to grow. Alfalfa seeds absorb about half their weight in water prior to they begin to germinate, making them appear to be swelling. If the seeds you have are dry, they won't sprout. Add more water to the plate until the seeds are moist but not floating on the surface. You can also soak your seeds for a few hours. But be sure to remove them from the dish and wash them thoroughly before transferring them onto a paper towel.
Too moist Seeds that are wet can cause their roots and their shoots to decay before they are able to grow. The seeds can also become mouldy. It's acceptable for the paper towel to get wet, but the seeds shouldn't be floating in water. Each time you mist or water the seeds, rinse off the excess water.
Too cold or hot: بذور جرجير The best temperature for alfalfa's growth is 20-25degC. If you're growing your seed inside in winter, you should place them in a warm area. If you're cultivating your seeds in very hot temperatures, it is possible to water them more often because they'll dry out faster.
