The Spiritual Life of a Mature Christian - Part 2
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.”
Galatians 5:16, 22-24 NLT
What were the words referred to by Paul?
•Paul's message of a mature Christian to Ephesus
•to be fruitful in the light (Eph 5:9)
•pursue Holy Spirit (Gal 5:6)
**We must live a life pursuing the Holy Spirit: “walk by the Spirit”
•when we pursue the Holy Spirit, there is abundance
•follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit rather than according to the way of our
own desires
•“And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I
want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I
don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” Romans 7:18-19 NLT
•God must be in the center priority
•Paul followed the guidance of the Holy Spirit: “So we decided to leave for
Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach
the Good News there.”Acts 16:10 NLT
We must hope in the fruit of the Holy Spirit
“Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example.”
Philippians 3:17 NLT
We must witness the evidence of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit
•“On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one
place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a
mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then,
what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of
them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began
speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. At that
time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When
they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were
bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.
They were completely amazed. “How can this be?” they exclaimed.
“These people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking in our
own native languages! Here we are—Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people
from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia,
Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors
from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And
we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the
wonderful things God has done!” They stood there amazed and perplexed.
“What can this mean?” they asked each other. But others in the crowd
ridiculed them, saying, “They’re just drunk, that’s all!” Then Peter stepped
forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, “Listen
carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no
mistake about this.”Acts 2:1-14 NLT
•Lay down everything to Father God
•Be bold in witnessing the Holy Spirit to the world
We must bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
•Faith without action will bear no fruit
•We must spread the seeds of faith ◦Only by the Word of God
◦We must pray always
•We must entrust ourselves to the power of the Holy Spirit
•We must be able to overcome ourselves and the world
Are you living a life bearing fruits of the Holy Spirit? You MUST bear fruit. Without fruit, branch is cut off and thrown into the fire (Matthew 3:10). This is God's will, blessing and warning. Walk by the Spirit so that you may be pure and bear fruit!
