The Hope in Resurrection

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (‭John‬ ‭11‬:‭25-26‬ NIV)

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15‬:‭12-20‬ NIV)

What is resurrection?
•to be alive again renewed and surpassing time and space
•it is to have mastery over time and space
•death no longer has mastery

Difference between resurrection and revival
•resurrection is renewed life with ability to surpass death
•revival is to live again in the existing body and still susceptible to corruption and death

All will be resurrected, good or bad
•there is resurrection to live eternal life with God good
•there is resurrection to live eternal suffering in eternal fire for the sinful

Resurrection of Jesus Christ
•after Jesus died for our sins on the cross, he rose in 3 days
•He is the first resurrection

Resurrection of the saints
•those who seek things of this world will be condemned to eternal fire
•those who seek God and live according to His will will be raised to live eternal life with God

Appearance of Resurrection
•both the body and soul/spirit is raised together

The resurrection that we must preserve
•first day after Sabbath
•there are 52 days a year where we gather together at church to remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ
•should not be a habit that we take for granted
•we should remember during the Lord's supper the sacrifice that was made for our salvation

What is the meaning of Resurrection to us?
•We have been saved and freed from our sins forever
•we have been freed forever from a meaningless life
•the resurrection of Jesus is everlasting
•resurrection and eternal life is ONLY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

How can we participate in the resurrection?
•we must be willing to die in Christ
•we must receive the remission of sins and be born again in Christ
•we must live a life of santification

We must become the light of this world, shining brightly and spreading the gospel. We must be salt of this world, providing seasoning and flavor of eternal life to all and sharing the good news, that through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are saved!
