RECAP:
What does God want of us?

Last week:

God chose us so that the Kingdom of God may be manifest through us so that His love may be shown to the world. This is the reason why we received remission (complete cleansing/forgiveness) of our sins and have been given the opportunity to become children of God. Furthermore, this is the
reason why we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit so that we may be able to understand God’s will and by understanding His will, we can fully glorify Him.

We seek to do the will of our Father God, cherishing His righteousness, peace, and joy. All the while remembering Pau’s confession that we are wretched souls but thanks be to God that he gave us his love and laws to be victorious and free of sin so that we can live our lives giving thanks in all circumstances.

What is the will of God?
To become a person with integrity
To live serving others
– Living our lives with the sole purpose of building up the body of Christ.

Today’s Sermon:

Building up the Body of Christ

A. 그리스도의 제자를 삼으라 – Make disciples for Christ

– Jesus Christ is the head of the church.

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

– We are part of the lineage/members of the Church
Saints are members of the Church

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
In order to build up the body of Christ, we must make disciples of all nations.

I am the vine, my Father is the caretaker and you are the branches.
This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”(John 15:8)

What is a Disciple?

In the bible being a Christian and a disciple are one and the same. In Acts, Barnabas went to Tarsus to find Saul. Once they met, they together went to Antioch and gathered as a church and taught for one year and built up disciples. These disciples considered themselves Christians.

The word “Christian” comes up only three times in the bible. However, the word “Disciple” comes up over 200 times.
Thus, we can use the two words interchangeably and the fact that the word Disciple is used more frequently, we can be assured that it was more important for Jesus Christ that discipleship be our focus as Christians.

The conditions to becoming a disciple.

How do I become a disciple?
배우는 자 (Learner)(마11:29) – Learn the word of God.
따르는 자(Follower)(마4:19) – Follow the word of God.
위탁을 받는자(A committed person)(딤후 2:4) – Be committed to the word of God.
훈련을 받은 자 (A disciplined person)(고전9:27) – Be trained by the word of God.

Living by the word of God is evidence of being a disciple.

Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples (John 8:30,31)

Loving one another is evidence of being a disciple.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."(John 13:34,35)

Being fruitful is evidence of being a disciple.

This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.(John15:8)

What do disciples need?

(Be with them) – To be together
(Teaching) – To teach
다) 인격적 전달하는 것(personality) – The ability to convey one’s personality/will.
(Show them Example) – To set an example. Be an example.

The importance of receiving Disciple training

Personally committed (Pay our dues)
1:88) – Become a witness
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."(Acts 1:8)
다) 종의 도(출21:5)The work of a servant. But if the servant declares, 'I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,' 6 상전이 그를 데리고 재판장에게로 갈 것이요 또 그를 문이나 문설주 앞으로 데리고 가서 그것에다가 송곳으로 그 귀를 뚫을 것이라 그가 영영히 그 상전을 섬기리라then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.

What is the reason for not being fruitful?

– There are time when we think we have done everything and yet we are not fruitful.
그것은 네비게이트 창시자 도슨 트로트멘(Dawson Trotman) 은 그의 저서 Born to reproduction 에서 – Dawson Trotman in “Born to Reproduction” said this can happen due to the following reasons:

When a man and woman are not joined in Holy matrimony.
When we are stricken with disease or impairment.
When we are not yet mature enough to procreate.

(Experiencing God)

God is always working around you
    – God wants to establish and continue to have an intimate and substantive    relationship of agape love with you.
     – God invites you to be a part of His great work.
    – In order so that you may be enlightened to God’s purpose, we have been given the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the word of God in the bible, and the church.
    – The calling of God requires you to persevere the conflict of faith and act in accordance with His calling.
    – We must adjust our lives so that we can participate in the manifestation of the will of God.
    – Once we are obedient to God, He will do His works through us and allow us to know Him better through His works.

C. 주님의 명령을 지킵니다 – Follow the Command of our Lord

     – Carry out the mission commanded of us by God

그러므로 너희는 가서 모든 족속으로 제자를 삼아 아버지와 아들과 성령의 이름으로 침례를 주고 20 내가 너희에게 분부한 모든 것을 가르쳐 지키게 하라 볼지어다 내가 세상 끝날까지 너희와 항상 함께 있으리라 하시니라 (마태복음 28:19,20) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."(Matthew 28:18-20)

Preach the good news/gospel to all creation.

16:15) He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. (Mark 16:15)
Entrust/Ask your faithful people to work for God

또 네가 많은 증인 앞에서 내게 들은 바를 충성된 사람들에게 부탁하라 저희가 또 다른 사람들을 가르칠 수 있으리라 (디모데후서 2:2) And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.( 2 Timothy 2:2)

Become a person that is pleasing in God’s sight

믿음이 없이는 기쁘시게 못하나니 하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상 주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라 (히브리서11:6) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrew 11:6)
Become a person that follows God’s will

Abraham is the father of faith and obedience (Genesis 12)
The salvation of Israel were obedient to Moses (Exodus 4)
Samuel was a servant of God is obedience (1 Samuel 3)
너희 자신을 종으로 드려 누구에게 순종하든지 그 순종함을 받는 자의 종이 되는 줄을 너희가 알지 못하느냐 혹은 죄의 종으로 사망에 이르고 순종의 종으로 의에 이르느니라 (로마서 6:16) Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? (Rome 6:16)

Christians have confidence in the Gospel

1:7) which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some
people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. (Galatians 1:7)
