Faith of Moses
“It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up, refused to be called
the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to share the oppression of
God’s people instead of enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. He
thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the
treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward.”
Hebrews 11:24-26 NLT
Moses was a Person of God
““Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the
Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my
Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to
me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out
demons in your name and performed many miracles in your
name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you
who break God’s laws.’” Matthew 7:21-23 NLT
“The LORD replied to Moses, “I will indeed do what you have
asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.””
Exodus 33:17 NLT
Faith is to refuse what should be refused
* Moses refused a status which might have been self serving but
not God serving: “It was by faith that Moses, when he grew up,
refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.” Hebrews
11:24 NLT
* Moses left the luxury, prestige and homes he knew it as a result
of having stood up for who he thought was his people and who
he should stand for
* ““If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by
comparison—your father and mother, wife and children, brothers
and sisters—yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be
my disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow
me, you cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:26-27 NLT
* ““If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you
are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter
more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.” Matthew
10:37 NLT
* “Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may
be wiped away.” Acts of the Apostles 3:19 NLT
“People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they
confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.” Proverbs
28:13 NLT
* “God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has
invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.“
1 Corinthians 1:9 NLT
* “for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us
and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true
God.” 1 Thessalonians 1:9 NLT *
Faith is to choose what should be chosen
* “He chose to share the oppression of God’s people instead of
enjoying the fleeting pleasures of sin. He thought it was better to
suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt,
for he was looking ahead to his great reward.” Hebrews 11:25-26
NLT
* To choose is a proactive gesture of obeying
* To choose we must refuse
* “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a
new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2
Corinthians 5:17 NLT
Faith is convinced by clear values
* 26 “Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who
scatters seed on the ground. 28 The earth produces the crops on
Its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of
wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens.” Mark 4:26, 28
NLT
* “The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the
message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they
don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as
soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing
God’s word.” Mark 4:16-17 NLT
* Moses' motivation started when he was able to see the suffering
of his people
* the ability to realize which is God's choice vs a selfish choice
* “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly
prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
Philippians 3:14 NLT
“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who
wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he
rewards those who sincerely seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 NLT
